There are many features and benefits of the Ecojoist system, the biggest possibly being the cost savings that can be achieved. With a design which is light, easy to install and with its unique open web framework Ecojoists not only minimise waste materials but enable rapid installation of services.
As illustrated opposite, some of the key features of the Ecojoist system are the ease and speed at which services can be installed. With its open web systems, plumbing and wiring can be achieved in a fraction of the time when compared to conventional solid timber joists. This also reduces the need for surface run pipework.
The Ecojoist system is designed to be compatible in size with solid timber sizes and brickwork. With a minimum of 72mm wide flanges, the system provides a large area for the fixing of floor deck and ceiling panels. The system can also be top chord supported reducing the amount of metalwork required.
Due to the reduced amount of timber used within the Ecojoist system and hence the reduced weight, joists can be easily transported, positioned and adjusted prior to fixing. In addition, the need for load bearing walls is reduced which can result in cost savings for foundations.
The galvanised V-shaped steel webs provide an immensely strong structure, whilst adding minimal weight to the system.
Information from National House Builder states that Ecojoist will reduce maintenance, reduce installation time leading to savings on overall project duration and cost.
As the installation time is reduced, not only are contractor costs reduced but overall site overheads are minimised due to faster site completion. National House Builders have demonstrated that on a typical 100 house development of three bedroom homes that significant overall savings can be achieved with an Ecojoist system.
All Ecojoists are made to measure to aid speed and ease of installation. The manner in which the joists are fixed varies and detailed technical information is available in the Ecojoist Technical Manual from Robinson Manufacturing.
Ecojoists work with all standard fitting techniques and fixtures but all come with the added flexibility of being able to make adjustments quickly and easily on site.
Robinson Manufacturing work closely with Gang-Nail on a continuous basis of product development. This arrangement enables us to offer new products and construction technologies to our customers.
Ecojoist has been successfully tested in accordance with:
BS476: Part 8: 1972 - 30 minute Fire Resistance.
BS476: Part 21: 1987 - 60 minute Fire Resistance.
Approved Document E - requirement E2, 40dB airborne sound installation.
In addition, a range of material permutations have been professionally assessed with regard to fire resistance in accordance with BS476: Part 21: 1987.
